The Roadrunner Women’s Soccer team got their pre-season underway with a friendly clash against the CSUB Alumni on Saturday August 6th. The match was a huge success with 25 alumni present helping to bring in a respectable crowd. The alumni held there own for the first 25 minutes and kept the runners from finding the back of the net. Unfortunately with the constant knocking on the door Sam Pena was able to break through and give the runners a 1-0 lead which they kept till half time. Fresh legs coming out of the break kept the battle alive with the alumni being awarded a penalty for handball in the box. It was neatly tucked away to level the score line. As fatigue became a factor with the alumni then runners battled on creating numerous chances. Freshman Emily Noethe finally found the back of the net to pull back the lead. From here on out it was well executed soccer until the final whistle but not before the runners were awarded a penalty for a bad challenge in the box. Captain Jessica Fogeltanz stepped up to tuck it away and put the game out of reach.
It was great to see fans out there and we hope to see you and the alumni throughout the season. |
